    Time Out Says…

The latest in Barrio’s series of colourful cocktail bars is full of the unexpected. There’s a caravan parked on a plinth that’s been turned into a seating area, and lights made out of washing machine drums dangle precariously overhead. It’s all a bit quirky – often unnecessarily so – but it does make the place feel fun. Equally unexpected is the stuff that comes out of the kitchen. The ceviche was delicate and delicious, spiked with pomegranate and coriander; the pork belly sliders were sensational, each bite beginning with a slick of sweet potato jam before giving way to rich, smoky meat. Offering visitors the chance to get up close and personal with the sights, tastes and sounds of far flung Latin cultures, you’ll find their latest 200-capacity site on Acre Lane. The Brixton site showcases a new drinks menu comprising of brand new signature blends as well as some glorious Barrio classics. The bar team aren’t exactly shy and you’ll find lashings of mezcal, pisco, rum and tequila propping up the back bar. Beer is a big deal here too, with brewery-fresh pints served alongside Latin craft brews.

London’s most soulful suburb is the no-brainer location for Barrio’s fourth outing. Fans of the firm’s Soho, Shoreditch and Islington bars will know what to expect: colour-clash carnival decor, kick-ass Carib-cocktails (created in conjunction with local drinks consultants, Shrub & Shutter), lively Lima-style ‘anticuchos’ (traditional meaty skewers) and big brassy beats (Latin, black American and funky). Order rum-based tropi-coolers, Zombies and Hurricanes from £8.50; Port Of Call (a pisco and port Sour); Latin and local craft beers; and wine from £18. Anticipate generous happy hours and happy house party vibes until 2am.
