    Time Out Says…

    The cocktail list, drawn up by Nick Strangeway and the late Henry Besant, gives a prominent place to traditional punches, served in mugs. A martini was made well, and the Gin Fix (a variant on Gin Fizz using fresh berries) was a wonderful and refreshing potion. Warning: the free bar snacks, coated peanuts, are dangerously addictive.

    Marcus Wareing’s restaurant The Gilbert Scott has a snazzy bar in the former Midland Grand entrance hall and delicious modern British food. The dark-panelled Booking Office was just that: it looks like a Harry Potter set and is open until 3am on Thursday, Friday and Saturday with live music. Guests staying in Chambers rooms and suites can eat in the seclusion of the Chambers Club.
