    Two giant langoustines with a chilli salsa were gloriously juicy, exploding off the fork like Kievs – it was like eating on steroids. Bife de Chorizo (nothing to do with chorizo) was a chunk of sirloin whose stocky, scorched appearance masked a gloriously tender, rosy interior. It had a restrained tang of tamarind, which made just the subtlest enrichment.
    That was all terrific, but I'd probably give the pizzazz prize to the yellowfin tuna with yuzu and huacati, which tasted completely new...

    The cocktail list kicks off with pisco, the brandy-like national drink of Peru – the straightforward sours is frothy and tangy, but pricey at £10.95. More exciting are the house cocktails, advertising South American influences like chilli-infused tequila or chicha morada, a Peruvian purple corn sweet’s a dark, sleek and lively spot, much more informal than nearby five-star hotel bars, and a good place to explore deepest, darkest Peru without leaving W1.

    You’re here to drink pisco, tequila and mescal, check out the bar selection, with the mainstream bottles moved to the side there is room for them to show off the more obscure collection they have with bottles all shapes and sizes.
    Hungry? Eat ceviche, tiraditos, ox heart and various things off their parrilla and Josper grill at the bar or hit the restaurant. Going all out? Get the chef’s table hidden behind the kitchen, you’ll be in for a treat.
