Evening Standard Says...
It's another winner. Aesthetically it has all the dark and sultry trappings of a cool Brooklyn bar, but as Burgess wanted, it does feel like somewhere you can drop in to for a drink (they're not called cocktails here) instead of the pub and even shoot some pool (for free) — our kinda place...Drinks-wise it's all about beers, highballs and more unusual spirits like mezcal and Kamm & Sons.
the cocktails, brought to table by impeccably pleasant staff, are brilliant. They’re strong, well-balanced and classy. Interestingly, the short list doesn’t include any gin or vodka, but instead plenty of unusual and complex spirits such as white rye, Kamm & Sons and mezcal. There’s also a good showing from the aperitifs – Suze, Byrrh, Aperol, Amer Picon, vermouth...as this new bar does get it right each time, maybe the real sin would be to miss it.
The cocktails are awesome, unsurprisingly. Order the Sea City made with mezcal, cachaça, lemon, agave, salt, mint and soda – light and refreshing and perfectly balanced. Their Highballs are on the money too, the 12 Ball made with BNJ scotch, Aperol, Amontillado sherry and sparkling wine was BarChick’s favourite, plus they’re all a steal at 7 quid.
