Evening Standard Says...
Experimental mixologist Matt Whiley is behind this new bar dealing in inventive cocktails at the old Bethnal Green Town Hall. It shares the space with hot new restaurant the Typing Rooms. Each cocktail is not just a cocktail, it’s a whole taste experience (as you’d expect for between £8 and £10 a glass).
Peg and Patriot is brought to you by Matt Whiley, so you guessed it – the drinks are gonna be a little quirky. They’ve got their geek on and distil their spirits on site… yes, that’s what the weird bubbling test tube thing at the back is (show offs). So naturally we were sipping on Marmite Martinis, Salt Beef Sazeracs and other eclectic combinations. The stomach liners in here are bad ass. You can’t say no to a foie gras slider right?!
Expect an adventurous menu with wild concoctions like the Pho Money, Pho Problems with viet-spiced vodka, pak choi, lime leaf and lime...with plenty of spots to perch around the island bar — with an extra brass counter for your drinks — this is perfect for bar-side or table-side boozing.
