Super Lyan’s approach to drinking is different, too. Chetiyawardana says he was inspired by friends coming to his old place wanting “classics, but bitchin’ classics”. You can see it across the menu: things kick of with an Army & Navy, there’s a twist on a Clover Club, they’ve got fizzes and sours and Manhattans and Martinis. The upstairs lounge temporarily closed, the future identity and nature of the first floor of seminal Hoxton cocktail lounge White Lyan, is under wraps. Pending its autumn 2017 reveal, fans of owner Ryan Chetiyawardana’s distinctive craft are well-served at Super Lyan, the old joint’s reconfigured basement. Dark, moody and superficially sleazy - a lap-dancer’s metal pole adding to the room’s low-rent mien - the new menu marks a change of mood from the owner’s previous ascetic approach.Read more…
Design My Night Says…
Mr Lyan is famous for adding his own personal twist to classic cocktails. The menu at Super Lyan is no exception to this. The entire cocktail list looks like a bit of a chemistry table. Each cocktail's name appears on the left of the page, with the 'hooch' and 'distillery' then listed alongside. To help anyone that doesn't know their Yaguara from their Ancho Reyes (aka me) the list also has a helpful 'taste' column, using words like 'Fruity','Fresh' and downright 'Boozy' to describe each concoction.Read more…
