With its unfinished brick and concrete walls, low lighting, french grey-painted plank ceiling, red leather banquettes and lively open kitchen down one side, evoking a sort of chic US railway car diner, the spot easily delivers on atmosphere...each classic dish is well-thought-out and composed of good ingredients: French fries are thin and crispy, but made of flavourful potatoes, even a simple bibb lettuce and avocado salad was enlivened with finely chopped chives and tarragon, so it actually tasted of something. The long, vaulted room pays homage to the New York diner – complete with leather booths and a long, kitchen-facing bar done out with the group’s trademark finesse and good taste. The menu, compiled with help from high-end diner Au Cheval in Chicago, is the real deal. Excellent hot dogs come in a soft, sweet brioche bap, double cheeseburgers can be pimped with a thick rasher of bacon, and hoppy American ales are the pick from an excellent beer list.Read more…

The Electric Diner, is really the London outpost of Brendan Sodikoff’s award-winning French-American diner “Au Cheval” – famous, they say, for serving up Chicago’s best burger. Aesthetically, the Big Three are all ticked off - exposed brickwork; industrial-style lighting; red leather banquettes – but it’s the food that takes centre stage...In summary: wear loose clothing, eat well... and then roll yourself into one of those big, leather, footstool-paired armchairs in the cinema next door to recover.Read more…
