Evening Standard Says...
The decoration of the narrow ground- floor room with a frontage that in appropriate weather can be thrown open to the street politely references its past as a French bistro, with Toulouse-Lautrec posters and bentwood chairs doing their imitable stuff...Coulter’s expertise and easy understanding is delectably apparent in dishes of roasted hake with lentils, pancetta and vibrant salsa verde and roasted cod in a sauce of fennel-bolstered crab bisque.
The menu has oysters at its heart – there’s not much they don’t know about their favourite shellfish, and they’re eager to impart information to anyone who’s interested. As oysters go, these are the poshest kind – straight from the Wright Brothers’ own beds on the Helford river in Cornwall, which just happens to be part of HRH’s private Duchy estate. In a first for Wright Brothers, this newcomer has a separate cocktail and oyster bar, The Mermaid.
Inspired by the artisan seafood bistros of Paris, the venue is beautifully decorated with varies smatterings of marine-themed knick-knacks and sleek, marble surfaces. Completing the opulent feel of this spot, their oyster bar is stocked full of all your favourite spirits. With years of experience under their expanding belts, their team of mixologists and chef have partnered each drink up with an oyster dish.
