The Tavern downstairs is a fairly traditional pub with some interesting decorative quirks: we especially like the boat swinging merrily from the ceiling. The beers are all sourced from London and the South-East. But sneak around to the back, through an unassuming door, and up the stairs for the real gem: a cocktail salon dressed in oddities of the late 19th century, with chaise longues and dark corners, a smell of cocktails lingering like perfume and operatic fare playing throughout.

Downstairs you’ll be invited to enjoy food from The Tavern’s menu of wild game - with dishes like pot roast pheasant and partridge pear with walnuts - meat, fish, pies, salads and puddings, plus cocktails and beer served in traditional tankards and pewter cups. Whereas upstairs in the Gin Parlour and Salon you will, predictably, find lots of gin…. and, less predictably, an array of other 19th Century-inspired cocktails served from a marble bar that's located inside a room which looks as though it’s been been decorated by your grandma.

When BarChick’s had enough of the clashing tankards, you’ll find us hiding out with Aunt Gertrude. Play nice and you should be able to sneak upstairs too where you’ll find Aunt Gertrude’s gin parlour – and this secret bar is filled with enough gin to send you time traveling. It’s a more refined experience with velvet armchairs, settees and a crowd of gin connoisseurs and more serious cocktail drinkers.
