With more than 140 wines available by the glass, Enoteca is hardly short of wine, and serves an impressive array of reds, whites and sparkling. Naturally, they favour Italian wine. The restaurant use a coravin, meaning there’s a chance to try all sorts of oddities. We trusted our waiter to choose and suggest you do the same – but the menu is helpfully laid out with recommendations from the sommelier, too, and the wrtie-up of everything on offer is long and detailed if you're a real keeno. Our highlight was the Folle Primitivo Lucarelli, a Primitivo from Apulia which showed off everything you'd expect from southern Italian wine: plummy, spicy, and with a little coffee and chocolate in the flavour. Gorgeous.

Connecting Enoteca’s Italian vineyard history with food is Head Chef Guglielmo Arnulfo, of Acciuga Kensington, who embarks on his second mission in London. Paired back Italian classics like his carbonara neatly match wine recommendations made with exactitude unlikely to be found outside of Italy. Dishes representative of high Italian culinary culture like his fried duck egg with white truffle make for new adventures.

Located next to Smithfield Market, this petite debutante has a large trick up its sleeve: over 150 Italian wines by the glass. The acquisition of a Coravin preservation system means the entire list can be sampled – just ask the clued-up staff to recommend something suitable from the bottles lining the walls and the ceiling. To go with the wine, there’s a concise menu of Italian standards, from starters of grilled octopus or breaded veal to mains including salted cod.
