    World's Best Bars Says…

Stop in for one drink at the K Bar at the Town House Kensington hotel and you may never leave. Whether it’s due to the comfy sofas and rows of books, or the world tour of whiskey you can take via their in-house selection of bottles, it’s difficult to tear yourself away from such a cozy and inviting space. The K Bar oozes class from the outset; dazzling chandeliers embedded into the ceiling, deep blue velvet bar stools, dark wood panelling and low lighting - it’s all rather seductive. And you’ll certainly be seduced by the drinks menu; a collection of well-thought-out cocktails and premium spirits.

Cocktails, meanwhile, are competitively priced and, above all, expertly mixed. For the nightcap crowd, there’s even a menu of dessert drinks (such as the Crème Brulée Martini, sweet tooth required). What’s clear is that standards here are set high. Given west London’s dearth of decent cocktail bars, this could be either a blessing or a curse. As K Bar’s head barman points out, ‘People usually like to move on when they go out. But when they come here there’s nowhere near for before or after.’ My tip? Stay at K Bar for one more instead.

The oak, the velvet, the brass, the marble tops: there is glamour here, luxury: whiffs of Penhaligon’s perfume and the rest. If the decor feels too weighted towards an all boys club (and it does) the staff and the cocktails do well to lean against this. And, while it’s cosy, they’ve arranged the room well, so it’s far from stuffy. In fact, the overall effect is of sophisticated seduction.
