The crowd is certainly in après mood, fuelled by London ales and quirky cocktails – including a low-cal gin tipple, Skinny Goldfish in a Bag, which does indeed arrive in a bag... a flatbread pizza with goats’ cheese, fig and honey was don’t-share delicious. For dessert, order pillowy baked Alaska or share the trio of ‘pudding shots’ including a deconstructed Wagon Wheel: definitely not shot-sized. In all, this is a fun pit-stop for a boozy bite in the no-man’s-land north of Euston Road.

Spread over one floor with access to a terrace for Summer, The Refinery’s ‘bite’ is its useful location, yet strong British classics are behind the bar in cocktails and in the steaks, lobster dishes and thought-through salads. Drake & Morgan’s food and drink is served in one of Central’s most accessible new working joints, with high ceilings welcoming the outside in and – pivotally – wide and practical workspaces. The hopscotch modernistic lighting, panelling and design-forward setting’ll aid the odd procrastination moment, too, away from work.

Details-shmetails, it was punchy with a hint of bubbles (my kind of drink). Second, we were brought a Spring sensation garnished with a blood orange wedge and a slice of cucumber; cool, refreshing and a blend of Kamm & Sons British Aperitif with Chapel Down and Elderflower. Hello the Brit Spritz.
