Tucked beneath the railway arches on Enid Street, Brew By Numbers is one of the craft breweries which makes up the famed Bermondsey Beer Mile. Its beers are well loved across the city, from its popular Session IPA to its more quirky seasonal brews, and now the team have created an Oatmeal Cookie Stout for Hawksmoor Spitalfields Bar this London Beer Week
Founded in 2011 by two friends, who in those days had a basement and a home brew kit, the brewery is all about creating exciting new beers, bringing back old styles and adapting established brews. The set up allows for different beers to be fermenting, with a team on hand to guide each style and recipe along its journey from mash to bottled beer, while a second arch has casks for aging, from ex-red wine to bourbon, and storage for all the finished bottles before they're shipped off to bars and pubs. Come the weekend the brewery opens its doors and serves its beers fresh from the tank.
In collaboration with Brew By Numbers, Hawksmoor Spitalfields Bar is serving the Oatmeal Cookie Stout, part of the brewery's pilot series. This is a rich, chocolatey brew, darkly coloured with notes of roasted nuts and caramel. It's truly gobsmakingly gorgeous, with just enough beery-bitterness to cut through the sweet flavours, leaving a balanced, rich beer to be enjoyed. And enjoy it you can, for just £3 with your wristband.
Hawksmoor are also offering the beer paired to a luxurious peanut butter shortbread dessert which pulls out those nutty, caramel notes from the brew perfectly. It's a match made in a Willy Wonka-styled heaven.
They haven't brewed tanks and tanks of the stuff though so get in quick before the taps run dry!
