How it works: London Beer Week

Last updated: 05/11/2015

Everything you need to know about London Beer Week

London Beer Week is a seven day festival celebrating the great and good of the city’s beer scene, including the bars and breweries which make up this vibrant landscape as well as the best ales, lagers and ciders available. Taking place in February each year the festival hosts events, discounted serves and exclusive offers. All you need to get involved is a wristband.

To get involved in the festivities you will need to wear a wristband; which cost £10 and are available to buy online. We encourage festival-goers to register in advance, although wristbands can also be purchased from one of our hubs which open on the first day of each festival. To access the discounts and offers all you have to do is show the bar staff your wristband. Essentially it’s your key to the city for the whole week, making you a part of the festival.

£3 Beers and £5 Boilermakers

We partner with over 100 bars for London Beer Week, all of whom serve a £3 speciality beer serve for wristband wearers. There is one discounted beer available in each venue and you can see what beer bars are serving online and in our guidebook – which you get for free when you collect your wristband. It’s a great chance to visit a new bar and try a new beer without hitting your bank balance.

Feel like an upgrade? Some venues also serve £5 Boilermakers which is a beer and a shot of whisky on the side. The beer will be the same as the bars £3 serve and the whisky will be paired to match the flavours of the beer. You might end up trying an American bourbon, an Irish whiskey or a smokey Scotch.

London Beer Week is about more than just about exploring the bars. Every year we, together with our partners, host fun and engaging events. This could be masterclasses, brewery tours, parties, tastings or paired meals. Want to learn how beer is made? How to taste beer like an expert? How to pair beer with food? Which beers are best to drink at certain times of the year? Or just meet loads of fun Londoners and drink delicious beer with them? There’s an event for everyone, amateur to expert.

The Hub

The hub is the home of our festival, it’s where you collect your wristband, plan your week out with the help of our amazing team of volunteers and enjoy delicious beer serves. London Beer Week 2016 was based in east London at the Old Truman Brewery, right next door to Craft Beer Rising. Here Sharp’s Brewery constructed a beach bar where you could enjoy your first beer of the week on us. There was also an exclusive Secret Bar for intimate tasting sessions, but only for those lucky enough to find it!

For 2016, London Beer Week hosted four fabulous pop-ups in and around the Old Truman Brewery. The first was our Sharp's Brewery London Beer Week Hub, and around the corner The Czech Club served brewery-fresh Pilsner Urquell Tank Beer straight from stainless steel tanks and the flavoursome easy drinking Czech beer Kozel while a few doors down Hop House 13 LDN brought beers, live music, pizza and good times to celebrate the launch of The Brewers Project’s latest innovation – Hop House 13 Lager. On the Thursday, Friday and Saturday of the week we popped-up with our very own Boilermaker Bar, a bluesy rock and rollin’ pop-up showcasing the humble Boilermaker. We picked six of our favourites brews and six whiskies (well, five and a Czech Liqueur), all of varying styles and had Londoners rolling the dice to pick their poison.

A handful of our partner bars go one step further than a £3 serve and put together a unique offer for wristband wears. This could be anything from a beer and paired oysters to a complete meal. undefined
