About

This November marks the launch of a brand new wine festival in the capital. Aiming to bring a buzzing London crowd face-to-face with winemakers, sommeliers and wine experts from around the world in a fun, informal setting, London Wine Fest is a wine festival series that will focus on a single wine theme or country per event, taking wine lovers of all kinds on a journey of discovery around the wine world.

Chapter 1: Hungary – New Wines from the Old World takes place at Studio-Spaces in Wapping (100m from Tobacco Dock) on 17-18 Nov 2017. This first-of-its kind London event will give attendees the chance to discover classic and new wines from this Old World country whose millennium-old winemaking heritage remains virtually unknown to UK consumers.

Top producers from regions such as Tokaj, Mátra, Eger, Somló, Balaton, Szekszárd and Villány will be represented, with winemakers on hand to talk about and pour their wines. With around 80% of Hungarian wine being consumed within Hungary, many of these producers are from small wineries who would otherwise never be seen in the UK. By taking part in the event, attendees are helping to gain exposure for these small artisanal wine businesses in London – the most exciting city in the world for wine.

London Wine Fest aims to cut through the elitism of the subject, making premium quality wines and the stories behind them accessible to everyone. With more than 1,000 wine lovers expected to attend, attendees will have the chance to chat face-to-face with winemakers, expert guest speakers, sommeliers and other likeminded wine lovers in a casual way – and of course taste an array of fantastic wines. Hungarian-themed street food prepared by one of Budapest’s top chefs will be available throughout the event.

The idea for London Wine Fest was conceived by Zsolt Szente, a Hungarian entrepreneur living in London. Zsolt’s family has worked in wine for generations. Inspired by the tradition of wine harvest festivals in old winemaking countries and the amazing community atmosphere around them, he decided this was something London was missing.

London Wine Fest will present a series of themed festivals around wine, with events expected to take place every two to three months focusing on a new country/wine region/type of wine. The first event of this series will focus on Hungarian wines and the next (planned for February 2018) will be on the theme of sparkling wine.
