Nestled away behind Whitehall Gardens on the banks of the River Thames, offering incredible views across to the South Bank and London Eye, a new secret garden is set to open its gates for the first time on Friday 11th May.
As the former home and office of the founder of MI6, Sir Mansfield Cummings, the hotel boasts historic connections to English Royalty and former British Prime Ministers including Gladstone, Churchill and Lloyd George, making it a true London icon.
This year the new summer terrace will create an oasis of calm and the perfect destination to celebrate British Summer Time in botanical style. It will offer the hotel’s guests, and Londoners alike, the opportunity to indulge the senses with an array of summer spritzes, and herb-inspired cocktails, as well as delicious tapas and an outdoor pizza oven serving sizzling delights throughout the day and night.
The hotel’s skilled mixologists have teamed up with premium mixer experts Fever-Tree to develop an extra special G&T menu which guests can garnish with herbs from the garden including fragrant lavender, rosemary and mint, to create their own combinations of botanical delights.
The larger cocktail menu features Summer spritzes inspired by the hotel’s history, with a herbaceous twist including; Gladstone’s Garden Spritz with gin, cloudy apple juice, mint and fresh apple, Mansfield’s Mediterranean Spritz with vermouth, gin, tonic, the Liberal Club Pimm’s Spritz with Pimm’s, Prosecco, lemon, strawberries and cucumber and the War Office Raspberry Fizzante with vodka, cranberry, Prosecco and raspberries.
The food menu is split into small plates including harissa and fresh mint lamb cutlets, pan-fried king prawns with thyme and chorizo, sharing plates such as the Mediterranean Platter with houmous, halloumi, feta stuffed peppers and pita, pizzas from the Wood Burning Oven including Putanesca with fresh basil, pepperoni with oregano and stone baked garlic bread with garden rosemary, as well as a selection of sweet desserts
Open daily from 12pm until 10pm*, The Secret Herb Garden at the Royal Horseguards Hotel, will also offer ‘Gin & Tonic Masterclasses presented by Fever-Tree’ throughout the summer on the last Thursday of every month, until the end of September (31st May, 28th June, 26th July, 30th August, 27th September).
