Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT IS DRINKUP.LONDON?
DrinkUp.London is the overarching business of our three week-long festivals – London Beer Week, London Wine Week and London Cocktail Week. It is a one-stop shop for the very best in the hospitality industry, a collection of what we believe are the very best bars, making the very best drinks. DrinkUp.London is also a platform for innovative, exciting drinks events throughout the year – allowing us to showcase even more pop-ups and parties than our three festival weeks allow.
WHY SHOULD I SIGN UP?
Once you’ve signed up, you will have exclusive access to drinks offers throughout the year from our fantastic list of bars (much like the festivals – but all year round). Our newsletters will also allow you first option on booking some of the incredible events we’ll be promoting plus access to special tasting events, product launches or meet the maker sessions.
HOW DO YOU CHOOSE YOUR BARS?
The bars featured on DrinkUp.London are our partners in the week-long festivals too. We cherry-pick the list of venues, changing them where necessary for their dedication to hospitality but also their specific offering – be it cocktails, wine or beer. It costs nothing to be on our list – but we do ask that they uphold their end of the bargain – offering people fantastic value with even better service.
HOW CAN I REGISTER MY BAR?
We usually approach bars to join our list – however – London’s a big place and a gentle nudge never goes amiss – email [email protected] and we’ll swing by for a chat.
HOW CAN I REGISTER MY EVENT?
If you’d like to promote your event to DrinkUp.London readers we’d love to hear from you. It’s easy to be included in our line up and where possible we also try and promote to further media. Longer lead times helps with this – so please do get in touch – [email protected]
DO YOU HAVE AN APP?
Yes we do! DrinkUpLDN is available for free from the iStore. We’re currently only available on iPhone but we’re working hard to get an android version ready ASAP.
HOW DO I GET INVOLVED WITH THE FESTIVALS?
To get involved in the festivities you will need to wear a wristband; these are available to buy online. We encourage festival-goers to register in advance, although wristbands can also be purchased from one of our hubs which open on the first day of each festival.
HOW DO I COLLECT MY WRISTBAND?
The address of the hubs will be publicized on our website as soon as they are signed and sealed, with opening hours plus some information on what other goodies you’ll receive when you arrive.
The hubs open on the first Monday of each festival and please note that lunchtimes and after work hours are always the busiest.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING WHEN I COLLECT MY WRISTBAND?
You will be issued an e-ticket for your wristband, which will have a unique bar code and booking reference. If you have smart phone we can scan direct from the screen or if not you can print this e-ticket and bring it with you. You are welcome to collect on someone else’s behalf as long as you have their booking details and permission. If you are lucky enough to look under 25, please bring valid ID and don’t be offended if we check.
WHAT DO I GET WITH MY WRISTBAND?
Your wristband entitles you to discounted drinks at all participating bars. The offer is for either a either a £3 speciality beer (London Beer Week), £5 wine flight (London Wine Week) or a £5 cocktail (London Cocktail Week) - Monday to Sunday, at any time the participating venues are open. Some venues are only able to serve drinks with food so will be providing a slightly different offer – please check the details listed on our website or in our guide book. You must be wearing a wristband to qualify for the discount, as must the whole group you are with if they would like to also take advantage of the offer.
WHAT IF MY WRISTBAND IS LOST OR DAMAGED?
Please take care of your wristband at all times: only under special circumstances can they be replaced and only with proof of purchase. Wristbands are non-transferable and are personal to you. We suggest you seek help of another person when affixing the wristband. Once the wristband fastener clasp is locked in place, the wristband can only be removed by cutting it off. Do not fit the wristband so loosely that it can be slipped over your wrist. Once your wristband is fitted do not attempt to transfer it to another person as this will invalidate the wristband.
WHEN IS THE WRISTBAND VALID?
Wristbands are valid from Monday - Sunday during the usual operating hours of each participating venue. We impose no limit on the number of discounted drinks you are allowed to consume, although this will be at the discretion of the venue and we trust that you will drink responsibly. Our partnering venues reserve the right not to serve individuals who they believe to be intoxicated, so please drink responsibly, have some water and make sure you grab some dinner.
WHAT IF I’M THE ONLY ONE IN MY GROUP WEARING A WRISTBAND?
Then you are clearly the brains of the operation. However, in order for your friends to also enjoy the wealth of deals and discounts our festivals provide then they each need to purchase one too. If the week has already started, there are allocated venues where you can come and purchase a wristband and online sales do not stop until the festival is over.
BUT CAN I BUY ROUNDS?
If you are buying rounds at the bar then all members of your group must be wearing a wristband. If someone in your group is not wearing a wristband they do not qualify for the special offer. Venues will charge full price to those not wearing a wristband.
DO I NEED A WRISTBAND TO BOOK FOR THE EVENTS?
No. Anyone can book to attend an event during each festival and no wristband is necessary. However – the wristbands are really good value and often offer added value at ticketed events. They are also valid for the full seven days of each festival, so what’s not to like?
CAN I COLLECT WRISTBANDS ON BEHALF OF MY FRIENDS?
Yes you may but only if you have the consent of the person who originally purchased and if you have their booking reference either on your phone or printed out.
HOW SHOULD I PLAN MY WEEK?
Many events and activities during each festival will be ticketed, at a range of price points. We list our events by type (parties, tastings, masterclasses etc) and also by day – so it’s super easy to see what’s going on, and when. On top of these stand-alone events, our Tours run every day. These aren’t organised tours – so we encourage that you make your own plans and pop in and out of any of our partnering venues during their usual opening hours. We’ve split our list of bars into cohesive areas of London to encourage strolling between venues.
THE BAR I WANT TO VISIT SEEMS VERY BUSY – WHAT SHOULD I DO?
You should download our free app DRINKUPLDN - which will have real time updates and GPS tracking to let you know which bars are currently busy and also which bars you’re near to. The bars in close proximity to our hubs tend to be the busiest so we recommend venturing further afield – especially later in the week.
I’M NEW TO LONDON, WHAT’S THE BEST WAY OF GETTING AROUND DURING THE WEEK?
The quickest way to get round London is the Underground. You can see a map online - www.tfl.gov.uk/maps/track/tube or can pick up a free map at any station. A weekly travel pass is available to buy from any underground station. This also allows you unlimited use of all underground train services in zones 1 & 2 and London buses. Many bus routes are 24-hour and night services often operate (though may take a slightly different route). Please check each individual bus stop for information. For ease there is an excellent journey planner available on www.tfl.gov.uk Also take a look at www.visitlondon.com for some general information about London. Just to state the obvious - London is a big city and it takes on average 40 minutes to get anywhere... even if it looks near. Please allow plenty of time to get to event venues to collect your tickets in advance of the start time.
I WANT TO SEE THE SIGHTS WHILST TRAVELLING, WOULD YOU ADVISE DRIVING?
The only safe option is not to drink alcohol if you plan to drive (www.drinkaware.com). This also means you should not offer an alcoholic drink to someone who is intending to drive. Therefore if you want to enjoy your wine flights as well as travelling by car - please get in a taxi. For those not used to London; if a black taxi has a yellow light on it, it's available for hire. You'll need to wave your arms about a bit, but they will stop. Also worth noting is most black cabs still do not accept card payments. If you are intending on driving your own car around London you need to be aware of the congestion charge. This now costs £11.50 a day between 7am and 6pm. If you don't pay the charge immediately, the cost goes up and up, so don't forget. The good news is there is no congestion charge applicable on weekends. Hoorah!
