London wins at Tales of the Cocktail

Jane Ryan | 25/07/2016

Last week in New Orleans London bars won across the international categories. Your local might just be the best in the world…

Each year at Tales of the Cocktail the good and great of the international bar community gather in New Orleans to award the very best bars and bartenders. As it's an American-based awards they have divided the world between American and everyone else (World Series anyone?) which puts London competiting with every city on the planet apart from the US ones.

For the 2016 awards London took home nearly every award in the international community and won World's Best Cocktail Bar which includes America. Bascially we're the best. Here's the list of winners in our home city - drop by, say congrats and see what all the fuss is about.

World’s Best Cocktail Bar AND Best International Hotel Bar : The Connaught Bar, London

undefined

The Connaught, Carlos Place, London, W1K 2AL

Time Out Says..."The Connaught, designed by the renowned David Collins, is all about style and glamour – mirrors, low lighting, silver leaf, tasteful palette, lots of plush seating for intimate conversation...But even if you can only stretch to a single drink, it’s worth it: count out every last penny and treat yourself."

Best International Cocktail Bar : Happiness Forgets, London

undefined

Happiness Forgets, 8-9 Hoxton Square, London, N1 6NU

The Nudge says..."a candlelit den of iniquity that – it seems – was born to relight old flames, and spark up new ones, over some killer cocktails. And killer they are, with Alastair Burgess (former head bartender of award winning Pegu in NYC) at the helm to perfectly execute some old classics with a couple of new twists."

Best International Bar Team: American Bar at the Savoy, London

undefined

American Bar, The Savoy Hotel, Carting Lane, London, WC2R 0EU

Time Out Says..."Regarded by many as the capital’s classiest custodian of the classic cocktail, the American Bar has been doing a refined line in dapper drinks since 1898."

World’s Best Cocktail Menu: Dandelyan, London

undefined

Dandelyan, Mondrian Hotel, 22 Upper Ground, London, SE1 9PD

The Telegraph Says... "Botany. Hardly sexy, but if anyone can give the science of plants a re-brand, it’s Ryan Chetiyawardana...As we settled into deep velvet bucket chairs on the weeknight when I visited, I decided that this would be the place to hunker down in for a winter nightcap – or a final, sophisticated stop-off after a night out."

Best International High Volume Cocktail Bar: Callooh Callay, London

undefined

Callooh Callay, 65 Rivington Street, London, EC2A 3AY

Best Bars Says... "Callooh Callay is a Shoreditch institution and was one of the first bars to herald in the era of east London cool … and a slew of speakeasies would follow. And while you’re likely to see the place heaving any night of the week, there is more here than meets the eye."

Best International Restaurant Bar: Hawksmoor Spitalfields, London

undefined

Hawksmoor Spitalfields Bar, 157a Commercial Street, London, E1 6BJ

Time Out Says..."Downstairs from Hawksmoor steakhouse, in an architecturally fascinating basement space, lurks one of the best bars in London...perch at the copper bar and ask the bartender to explain the provenance of all the various architectural features to you – and while you’re there, watch some brilliant drinks-makers at work. They know everything there is to know about balance of flavours, even in OTT concoctions such as the ultra-rich Nuclear Banana daiquiri...We love all the Hawksmoor restaurants, but this one has a bar that’s good enough to be a venue on its own."

Best New International Cocktail Bar: Oriole, London

undefined

Oriole, East Poultry Avenue , Smithfield Markets , London , EC1A 9LH

Barchick Says... "The bar staff are badass and seriously know their sh*t so service is the best you’ll find in London. But we expect no less from these guys who keep their employees for longer than we’ve been BarChicking."
