Eyes On: 5 Top New Openings in London

From a beautiful garden venue in the City to a sherry bar tucked behind Liverpool Street later this month, these are five best openings London will see this spring.

London is one of those city's that has constant openings and closings but there are only a handful we get truly excited about - because they're bringing a new concept or experience to the table. Here are five that come from knowledgeable hospitality teams, with incredible venues and offerings. Mark the dates in your diary and check them out.

The Napoleon

What: Black Rock's owners have grabbed the space above their beloved whisky bar and are launching two new bars plus a single suite hotel. These new bars include Sack, a sumptuous sherry bar loosely modeled on the unique wine and beer taverns of Southern Spain, with the wines paired to meats and cheeses. Upstairs The Devil's Darling will become a decadent hotel-style cocktail bar in a relaxed environment with music channelling glam rock and indie vibes. Then there's the single suite which promises a beautifully designed bespoke bedroom equipped with its own drinks trolley and an in-room elevator to deliver food and drink from any of the three bars straight to you.

Where: 9 Christopher Street, behind Liverpool Street Station.

Why We're Excited: Black Rock brought our Scotch whisky drinking to a whole new level and we are confident that Sack will similarly reignite London's passion for sherry. We're also really looking forward to finding the perfect excuse for a stay-cation in The Napoleon's single suite and ordering all the food and all the drink.

Opening: Thursday, 13th April

Super Lyan

What: White Lyan is closing and in its basement a new Lyan is born. This intimate cocktail bar will be serving a collection of “Bitchin’ Classics” where seemingly familiar drinks have been suped-up with a sprinkle of Mr Lyan magic.

Where: 153-155 Hoxton Street.

Why We're Excited: The Lyan team always deliver the goods, and while we're sad to see White Lyan go we know this basement is about to be transformed into one of London's great classic cocktail bars. The plans for the ground floor of White Lyan have yet to be annouced but if what we think we know is true then it's going to be mega.

Opening: Friday, April 14th

The Ned

What: Soho House's new City site is already promising to be a top food and bar destination with eight seperate bars and restaurants within, not to mention 252 plush five star hotel rooms, a rooftop pool and terraces overlooking St Paul's Cathedral and three grooming salons. As with all Soho House venues this one is membership only and there'll be a hefty pricetag attached. But boy does it look beautiful.

Where: 27-35 Poultry.

Why We're Excited: The bar teams are already aligning and there are some heavy hitters taking the top positions, but two bars we're most excited about in The Ned are Millie's Lounge with its 24 hour service and The Nickle Bar with its impressive bourbon and rye collection. We're just not sure who is sneaking us in yet...

Opening: Early 2017

Ivy City Garden

What: Another venue for the Square Mile, situated within the historic Bishopsgate Gardens, The Ivy City Garden will feature an all-day-dining menu, private dining room and hidden garden, offering a tranquil al fresco escape with wine - hurrah!

Where: Dashwood House, 69 Old Broad Street.

Why We're Excited: Going to any of the Ivy venues feels like an indulgent treat, something a little bit glam to do on a drab day, and the promise of a City venue with an al fresco garden just in time for summer is certainly enough to brave Bank station and its suits to nab a spot in the sunshine. We'll be ordering Beajoulais by the magnum and taking our time over lunch.

Opening: Wednesday, 7 June

Coupette

What: Ex-Savoy Chris Moore has been wanting to open this baby for a while and he's finally nearly there. With an incredible cast including the likes of Daniel Schofeild and Franck Dedieu, we just know Coupette is going to complete the Bethnal Green scene and could well be the jewel in its crown. The building itself dates back to the 1860s and Chris is planning to restore it back to its former glory.

Where: Bethnal Green Road.

Why We're Excited: Even if bartender names mean nothing to you, we can tell you right now Coupette is being opened by one of the strongest teams London has seen in a while. The drinks will be incredible, the service will be flawless, and it will be one of the most geniuenly great places to enjoy a cocktail in London. We can't wait.

Opening: May, 2017
