Unfairly thought of as a disco-style drink, Strawberry Daiquiris, when properly made, can be a balanced and refreshing cocktail. This recipe comes straight from head bartender Alejandro Bolivar of El Floridita, a bar in Havana, Cuba, known as ‘the cradle of the Daiquiri.’

Here the likes of Ernest Hemmingway would come to have blended Daiquiris from charming Cuban bartenders in smart red blazers. The strawberry version closely follows a classic blended Daiquiri recipe, simply replacing some white sugar with strawberry liqueur. Nowadays both the Strawberry and Banana Daiquiri are the most popular requests at El Floridita and Alejandro says the bar blends thousands of the cocktails each year.

45ml light rum   |   30ml strawberry liqueur   |   7.5ml fresh lime juice   |   5ml sugar syrup   |   Crushed ice to blend   |   1 fresh strawberry

Blender   |   Martini glass

1. Pour the rum, liqueur, sugar lime juice and strawberries into a blender
2. Add one scoop of crushed ice
3. Blend until the liquid is completely smooth
4. Pour into a Martini glass
5. Garnish with a fresh strawberry
