What’s coming in 2018

2017 was a year of big openings, and we have a funny feeling that 2018 might be up to the challenge of bringing even more to the capital. We've had our ears to the ground and these are the hottest openings to watch out for in 2018!

So what can we look forward to in 2018?

Bob Bob Cité
Bob Bob Ricard’s sister restaurant is set to launch on January 15th on Leadenhall Street, complete with the Press For Champagne buttons we so loved in the original site. Chef Eric Chavot is at the helm for the Cité version of Bob, he’ll be presiding over a restaurant that sees the rooms devided into Standard and Executive classes (this is the city after all) and there’ll even be a nine-seater sushi restaurant housed within the restaurant itself.

Coming to us from a former Barrafina chef (we’re already sold) Nieves Barragan Mohacho and a former Barrafina General Manager (double sold) José Etura, this new Spanish restaurant has all the trappings of success. Located on Mayfair’s Heddon Street, the design is rumoured to be similar to their previous employers with a sweeping bar overlooking an open kitchen. What us DrinkUp gals are most excited about though? There’ll be a separate bar area serving our favourite Spanish tipples from sherries to vermouths and even the gorgeous dry sparkling wine txakolis. Triple sold.

It seems everyone is getting out of Hackney these days, or at least launching their second venues back in central London. Neptune is set to be the next site from Hackney’s seafood-driven gastropub The Richmond and will be set inside The Principal Hotel, which is currently undergoing an opulent refurbishment in Russell Square.  Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week, despite the glamorous setting, this team is still striving for neighbourhood vibes.

Red Farm
Heard of Red Farm NYC? There’s two and they’re pretty famous as being some of the best Chinese in the big apple. Which is saying something. Now the brand is opening in London, right in the heart of Covent Garden. Which is sorta all we know for now, but we can expect their full line up of dumplings, and if their instagram page is anything to go by, cocktails as well.

Mare Street Market
If you’ve been to a 5CC cocktail bar or one of the barworks pubs (Wenlock & Essex, Electricity Showroom or The Well & Bucket) you’ll know these guys usually get things bang on the money. Mare Street Market, a converted warehouse space close to Broadway Market, is going to host a main restaurant with a menu designed by Nuno Mendes from The Chiltern Firehouse as well as a record shop, a florist, a bakery, deli and cocktail bar – which is no doubt were you’ll find team DrinkUp.

Swingers West End
Launching on March 23rd, our favourite east end crazy golf has found a much larger sister site, this time in the old BHS building on Oxford Street. It will of course have the same attractions such as street food vendors and two cocktail bars (apparently one has a building within the building which sounds like a great excuse to go if nothing else), as well as two brand new courses of seaside-themed golf.

Ollie Dabbous and Oskar Kinberg’s new site
Ah remember Dabbous? That was one glorious restaurant and, better yet, cocktail bar where you could order food downstairs and never worry about getting a table months in advance. For the new site, we don’t know a tone about as of yet but it’s definitely happening. Trust us. It’s to be in partnership with Hedonism Wines and we have heard that Hedonism has submitted a licensing application to Westminster City Council for a 250-cover restaurant at 85 Piccadilly in London’s Mayfair. But anything else we couldn’t possibly say. Mum’s the word.
