Chateau Meaume, Bordeaux Superieur, Bordeaux, France £30 per bottle
For decent claret in a swanky restaurant like Berners Tavern this is ridiculously good value, plus with its juicy black cassis laden fruit punch to the taste buds its perfect to take on any slab of meat that the restaurant cares to throw up. Slightly smoky on the finish and with lovely creamy tannins this is junior claret at a junior price.
Chateau Mouton Rothschild 2003, Bordeaux, France, £990 per bottle
Ok. We’re pushing the boundaries of stupidly rich Russian or idiot banker showing off, but actually this is a stunning wine from a very good vintage and its showing very well at the moment. Delicious structure, stunning body and fruit, with flavours that go on and on. Something to impress your boss/future father in law with.
