Jane Ryan
Fitzrovia has inexplicably become the best area for tapas and dessert wines, whether we're talking sharp and dry or sweet and robust. Hit the pavements to check out these three distinctive yet wonderful venues.
  • Start here

    Salt Yard

    54 Goodge Street, London, W1T 4NA

    Mon-Sat 12.00-23.00 Sun 12.00-22.00

Our first stop is one of the best tapas places in town. Part of the Salt Yard group which now has several outposts, this gem has a great upstairs bar where drinkers nibble plates of cheese and charcuterie while downstairs the fare is more robust. Order more plates than you need and indulge in sherry, port and excellent wines.

  • Move On

    Drakes Tabanco

    3 Windmill Street, London, W1T 2HY

    Mon-Fri 12.00-23.30 Sat 12.30-23.30 Sun CLOSED

Sherry straight out of the barrel, sweet wines, rich Spanish reds and dry whites, all topped off with more jamón ibérico than you could feast upon for a month. This is such a perfect addition to the London scene and one which we don't visit enough. Take a date to get close to on the intimate bar spots or book in for dinner and really dive into this mouthwatering cuisine - all the more enjoyable for the warming accompaning booze.

  • End Here

    Dickie Fitz

    48 Newman Street, London, W1T 1QQ

    Mon-Wed 07.30-23.00 Thu-Fri 07.30-00.00 Sat 11.00-23.00 Sun 11.00-16.30

A beautiful Art Deco bar from Australian group’s Matt Robinson, our last stop is all about Asian-inspired nightcaps, New World wines and indigenous seasoning. Order a delightful dessert and pair it with something equally naughty from the drinks menu. Delicious.
