A bartender's night off...

Rivington Street

Terry Cashman of 46 & Mercy
Terry Cashman: Shoreditch is where I've worked for the last seven years, and it's also my go-to area for a night off. I feel that if there's anywhere I know inside out, it's this place.

Frequently regarded over the last 5 years as one of the best bars in the world, it's main asset for me is not the menus (fun and original), nor the drinks (always excellent), but the absolutely genuine, warm greeting you get every time you walk in the place. It's the friendliest bar in London, bar none. So for a happy start to set the evening's tone, for me it has to be my old workplace. I would usually start the night with a Rye Manhattan with Cocchi Torino, but if it's your first time here, take a look at the menu, and talk to a bartender. An absolute riot of a time to end the night, I've never been to New Orleans, but I feel like I've spent many a night there. Jazzy, bluesy music, great, fun staff, a cigar terrace and a convivial friendly crowd make NOLA my first choice for closing time shenanigans. I usually end my night with something the staff named "The Terry Triple" - a beer, shot of Bourbon and a Manhattan... Though I wouldn't recommend this to everybody, it's certainly a good way to keep the happy buzz going all the way home.
