Hoxton's best destinations

Jane Ryan
Heading north of Shoreditch the streets become a bit more rough and ready. Gone are the Prets and Eats, instead places surrounding Hoxton station have a little more soul. Start an evening off at one of London's best wine bars, move on to a restaurant recently listed in the top 50 in London and finally ending at bar that has changed the world's cocktail landscape.
  • Start here

    Sager + Wilde Hackney Road

    193 Hackney Road, London, E2 8JL

    Mon-Fri 5pm-Midnight Sat-Sun 2pm-Midnight

Arrive between 5pm-7pm. Sager + Wilde is a very special place for several reasons. First and foremost is its wine offering. A daily list charts through the available glasses of which there is always the outstanding, the spectacular and the surprising. These are serious, beautiful wines available by the glass. Secondly is the intimate, comfortable and relaxing vibe of this visually stunning bar. Its counter top is old London pavement slabs, tapper candles throw a flickering glow over the bar and brick work is a warm, rusty brown. Thirdly is dedication of the staff, always eager to help with your decisions and let you sample different wines. Lastly - the cheese toasties are out of this world.

  • End Here

    White Lyan

    153-155 Hoxton Street, London, N1 6PJ

    Mon-Sun 5pm-1am

Arrive after 9pm. White Lyan is the bar that will challenge every notion you had on the word 'bar'. No ice, no citrus, in fact nothing perishable. Cocktails here are made with more science than shaking and are all bottled up and stored in the fridge, meaning you'll never have a long wait between ordering and clinking glasses. For everything weird and quirky about this place, it serves some of the most delicious cocktails in London. Don't be intimated by any of the ingredients, just give it a go. At the end of the night don't forget to buy a bottle of their take-home drinks. Perfect for your next dinner party.
