A bartender's night off...

Notting Hill

Sly Augustin, owner Trailer Happiness
I’m proud to say I was born in London, West London to be precise and my experience of growing up in such a culturally and economically diverse neighbourhood has given me quite a unique drinking experience. There may not be as many shabeens and un-tarted pubs as there used to be but the community spirit is alive and well with many a big character to be found roaming the Portobello road.
  • Start here

    Portobello Star

    171 Portobello Road, London, W11 2DY

    Mon-Thu Midday-11.30pm, Fri-Sat Midday-12.30am, Sun Midday-11.30pm

Portobello road is the location of my first venue and even though the Portobello Star is a great place to end the night I prefer to pop in when the staff aren’t too busy to listen to my abstract ramblings. The bartenders are adept at conversing with strangers so go here if your friend/date is going to be running late. Try a Dry Daiquiri or their world famous Guinness punch. Also free WiFi!!! The next spot is 3 minutes down the street and attached to a Cinema.

  • Move On

    Electric Diner

    191 Portobello Road, London, W11 2ED

    Mon-Thu 8am-Midnight, Fri-Sat 8am-1am Sun 8am-11pm

You need to eat well on a night out and the Electric Diner is one of my favourite spots in the area because its menu caters for all without compromising on taste whether you want to eat a healthy salad or a proper burger. Being the sophisticated chap that I am I often go for the Quinoa and hot salmon salad. They also have a great selection of wine and a decent back bar. A short walk from Portobello with only two turns finds us at the Rum Kitchen on All Saints Road.

  • End Here

    Rum Kitchen Notting Hill

    6-8 All Saints Road, London, W11 1HH

    Mon CLOSED, Tue-Thu 5pm-12.30am, Fri 5pm-2am, Sat 11am-2am, Sun11am-12.30am

I come here to say hello to Mario and drink rum while listening to dub reggae basslines in the basement. This is one of the few late night spots in the area so perfect for one drink too many. It’s open till 2am on the weekends and serves up a damn good Painkiller. The spirit of Mangrove lives on!
