Hidden in the back streets of Farringdon, is the only one of Mark Hix’s hangouts where you don’t have to order food with your drink...t’s a great spot for dinner, with Mark’s brand of seasonal British fare and the finest of oysters (obvs), not to mention awesome drinks. The drinks have that Mark’s Bar quality, the wine list is to be admired and Don Draper wouldn’t object to their mean Old Fashioneds.

Mark Hix, famed restaurateur and former chef director of Caprice Holdings, has opened his own relaxed eatery in the middle of trendy Smithfield that oozes laid back coolness...The menu is nicely planned, with a massive focus on seasonal ingredients. Head chef Stuart Tattersall, formerly at Stanza, creates beautifully simple plates to satisfy all taste buds. Prices range across a wide spectrum, from a few pounds for a starter to over £50 for a Porterhouse steak for two.

Although the name tells diners what to expect, there’s more to Hix than chops and oysters – Blythburgh pork crackling with apple sauce, for example (an ideal nibble), or irresistible deep-fried sprats with caper mayonnaise, followed by roast free-range Goosnargh chicken with wild garlic sauce (for two)...Alongside the global wine list there’s a good choice of beers and ciders, including Hix Oyster Ale, brewed by Palmers of Bridport.
