Seated service only so once the bar is full you won't be able to get in. No bookings over six people.
A seriously good neighbourhood bar in a not so sexy neighbourhood… Satan’s Whiskers is the sort of place that puts a big smile on BarChick’s face...The well-considered cocktail list includes such treats as the frightfully good A&B sour (Amaretto, lemon, sugar, Bookers Bourbon) and the Apple Jack Rabbit (Calvados, lemon, orange juice, maple syrup and the glass has a cinnamon sugar rim). Hit it weeknights for a chilled one or Thursday – Sunday for hip-hop, dirty dancing and smooth chat, sold.
Named after the classic gin cocktail of orange and vermouth, Satan’s Whiskers is very small and looks more like a restaurant on entry. Order the sweet and juicy long drinks are the highlight of the menu, which changes daily. I loved the wonderful Silver Pineapple, made of rum, sauv blanc and lime, or the sharp vodka-based Grapefruit Julep, which has honey and mint thrown in.
The daily-changing drink and food menus show the emphasis on fresh produce – a point that’s further underlined by the mountain of ice and fruit garnishes up on the bar. Your palate will likely be whet by the aroma wafting through the room (smoky baby back ribs are on offer from time to time). Hip-hop beats create an aura of Brooklyn cool...It’s more of a contemporary pub than a speakeasy, and exactly what you’re in the mood for … a lot of the time.
