To passers-by it might look like another Soho coffee joint, but the secret to this place is that you can get on the booze too. Tick. Tick. Boom. These kids have gone and opened a secret NYC style speakeasy down in the basement, and boy do we love it. Follow the neon sign for ‘French lessons’ down the sexy staircase if you want to Martini that espresso.
The Espresso Martini was reportedly invented in Soho in the 1990s when a supermodel asked for something that would “wake me up then f*** me up”...At Soho Grind, it’s dead simple. House espresso; Belvedere vodka; a dash of simple syrup. It’s so good, I could get all pretentious about it myself. Suffice to say, it hits the spot.
There’s a small selection of other food: a salad of artichoke, chickpea, mozzarella, and red chard; decent, but small, chicken and avocado sandwiches. Soho Grind has a drinks licence in the basement bar too, giving this spot an extra shot of New York cool.
